Kevin Anderson, star of stage and screen, originates the role of Doug, a newly released convict who takes up reluctant residence with his sister’s husband, teenage son and a thankful of tropical fish. Doug’s rehabilitation process, both absurdly funny and heartbreakingly sad, is by no means limited to the ex-con. When his overheated female pen pal arrives bearing gifts, the play explores the characters’ mutual feelings of guilt and fear, which lead to a tenuous recovery that is both hopeful and real.
